Deleted a project accidently

neha.khanna June 25, 2019

Hi,

Can you help me restore project for my team from Jira as we are using Jira as a service and I didn't take a backup so I have deleted the project accidentally with which my team's issues and worklogs have also been deleted so please help me restore it .

I was actually trying to create a new project and tried to move issues from one classic project to the newly created new gen project but since the view was not coming correct i deleted the new project and issues which I moved got deleted.

Please help me out of this situation, I will be grateful to you guys.

Thanks!!!

Even if the DBA has a backup like @Tomas Gustavsson says, you can restore a project directly. Restoring the database OVERWRITES what you have. You need to restore the backup to a new instance of JIRA. then there is a paid plugin (don't remember name) that can move it a single project. The other option is to export it from the new instance to CSV and then import the data into a project built with the same features. Deleting from JIRA is never good. You shouldn't delete issues either for the same reason.

But I don't think so we have a DB for it as we use it as a service from the cloud and we don't have installed it locally in our servers.

Please let me know what can be done in such a situation.

If you don't have any backup of some sort then there is not much you can do,

Somewhere there is a database behind your Jira instance, contact your service provider or support contact.
If you are running Jira via some sort of service they should be able to help you.

With out a backup there is not much we can help you with.

Have you contacted cloud support to find out if they are taking backups? If they aren't you need to find another service unless your contract specifically states you're responsible for data/JIRA backups.

Please let me know the procedure to contact cloud support.

From my end, I will check what our contract says but I checked with my team we are not responsible for creating backups.

Thanks for your response.

Raise it at https://support.atlassian.com/contact

However, the last time I spoke about backups, Atlassian only take system-wide backups suitable for restoring swathes of Cloud systems in the case where they lose a data centre.  Those are not suitable for restoring a single Cloud site and are not generally available to end-users.  So I don't think you will get anything useful from them.

I think that you shall, contact your DBA, hopefully they have a backup of your jira database.
