Differences between original estimate and remaining time estimate

Sam Hall July 27, 2020

Potentially 3 stupid questions:

  1. We're using Remaining Estimate and Time Spent in Estimations; we just created a new sprint, with some tasks coming over from a previous sprint. Some engineers use remaining-time, some are not so good at updating (generally when they're on track). Regardless, I'm not understanding the differences in numbers. See attached/below. This person does indeed have 2h remaining on one task, but I'm unsure of where the 5d is coming from on the person below? I've manually added up his remaining time on other tasks, but I don't see any values added.. am I missing something?

  2. Related to this, I assume Original Time estimate doesn't include Remaining Time Estimate task? I.e. The 9d 1.6h, is that inclusive or exclusive of the 2h?

  3. Just to be clear, Σ is sum of estimates - what is it summing if there's only one original/remaining estimate value added to a card/issue? See screenshots below.  I'm just not understanding the advantage on card view.

Hi,

Sorry but i don't understand your problem on the question 1 & 2.

About the third, the sum of orginial estimates equals to the time of your task added to the sum of all the subtasks.

Hope it will be usefull.

Olivier
