I have a Jira board that includes issues and epics from 3 projects. I want to display them on the board organized into swimlanes by epic. When I configure the board and select Epics under Select Method, I get a list of issues and epics, but no swimlanes.
Also, using the Group By option on the board only displays the epics from the primary project.
Is there a way to do this? How?
Welcome to the Atlassian Community!
It seems that board of a team-managed project can only display the epics from that project, and the board's filter cannot be customized.
A workaround would be to create a new agile board in a company-managed project starting from a saved filter that returns the issues from the 3 projects. Then, in the board settings configure swimlanes by epics.

Hi @Danut M _StonikByte_ That's exactly what I did, but the board setting for swimlanes as epics literally does nothing. It doesn't even add swimlanes. It's very strange.

Not sure what's wrong... You could contact Atlasian Support for assistance. Or, to search on Atlassian Marketplace for a Jira plugin.
If you want to try a plugin, our Great Gadgets app offers a Team Wallboard gadget that is capable to display your agile board grouping items in swim-lanes by epics. But this will be in form of a dashboard gadget; it does not alter the board itself.
Hope this helps.

Welcome to community! I do not think this is a native feature. We use easyagile though at Red Hat and it does this.
Best,

Thanks for the shoutout @Clark Everson! My name is Henri and I work at Easy Agile.
Our app Easy Agile TeamRhythm displays epics and issues from your Jira board in a "User story map" layout: a row of epics across the top, and their child issues in columns beneath them. You can then add horizontal swimlanes based on sprints or versions to plan how you'll sequence and deliver the work.
@Michelle Manbeck Feel free to check out the app in our demo sandbox here and see if it matches what you're looking for!

Hi @Michelle Manbeck
While it's not something that's natively available, you can explore third-party apps.
In Planyway you can have a timeline grouped by epics plus see all the epics structure in the board format.
