Does changing a JIRA project name and key also change the name of its issues?

If I have a project named "My DOGS" with key DOGS and I change it to "My CATS" and the key becomes CATS, would my existing issues with names like DOGS-1, DOGS-2, DOGS-3, etc, be renamed to CATS-1, CATS-2, CATS-3, etc?

Welcome to the community. 

Yes, it will also change the key of the issues. But the issues will still be available with their old key. So if you search for DOGS-1, it will still work.
