Does the GitLab for Jira Cloud App support self-managed GitLab?

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to connect the GitLab for Jira Cloud app with a self-managed GitLab instance.

What works:

•Jira issue keys in GitLab commits (e.g. NVR-11) are correctly linked to Jira Cloud.

•Opening those links from GitLab works as expected.

What doesn’t work:

•When entering the GitLab instance URL in the GitLap  Jira Cloud app, I get the error:

“Failed to update the GitLab instance”.

Is the GitLab for Jira Cloud app officially supported for self-managed GitLab?

And if yes – what should I do to make the connection work from Jira Cloud to GitLab?

HI @gabriele_loeben - Yes I was in a company where we had this set up for self-managed GitLab. The admin docs are at https://docs.gitlab.com/administration/settings/jira_cloud_app/  .

My guess is that your GitLab instance isn't publicly available (common for infosec reasons). See "Prerequisites" on the linked page.

Not sure if you are the network admin, but this shouldn't be too hard to set up. It's been a while but I feel like we may have used the Atlassian IP ranges to let traffic in. GitLab support can help you as well - there's a weird 3-legged exchange between Jira, your GitLab, and GitLab.com behind the scenes I think.
