I am attempting to create a new custom field called due date. I am wondering if it is possible to add this field to all PAST projects created while also automatically adding it to any new projects I may create.
Worked on it for a while and can't find any easy solutions, so any help would be much appreciated.
"Adding a custom field" means creating it and making it available to projects.
If you configure it to be available to old projects, then the field is there, you're done. You may need to reconfigure screens as Daniel says to make it appear as well, but that's all.
Hi Jeff,
Yes it's possible to add a new custom field to all existing projects in your Jira instance. Jira project fields are defined by something called 'Screen'. When you add a custom field to a 'Screen', all projects using that screen will display that custom field regardless of when the project was created.
This KB article details how you can add a new custom field to your Screen - https://confluence.atlassian.com/adminjiraserver/defining-a-screen-938847288.html
I suggest reading through this KB article first to understand the relationship between projects and screens - https://confluence.atlassian.com/adminjiraserver/project-screens-schemes-and-fields-938847220.html
