Due Date change-log after initial due date set

Our team would like to implement the next work process on issue creation:

  1. Create Issue
  2. Set Due Date (and other required fields)
  3. Work on issue
  4. User can change Due Date
  5. Change of Due Date can be made only with leaving a comment of 'reason of change'
  6. Change - log is evident on the issue

This is vital for our team so we can track changes. Currently, users can change Due Date without Admin knowing the original DueDate set / or without being notified of this change.

Kindly advise,

One way to do it is to remove it from the edit screen and add it to a transition screen for a transition called "Change due date", where due date and comment is available, and make both those required as transition validators.

Thank you! Very brief and good advice. Not only did I realize how to do this, but I also now understand transition editing in workflows!

Now I only have to see how to place it appropriately and between which workflow steps.

Thank you once more!

If I understood right, the workflow is being defined like this. So far we have used default transitions.
