We are looking to capture the duration taken to get the first response for any JIRA ticket. It could be based on the first time a comment is added from the assignee (other than the reporter) OR when its status is changed for the first time from NEW to something else.
You might want to use a custom field called "Date of First Response", which gives to the date of the first comment on an issue by anyone other than the reporter.
If you're looking for time spent on each status, use a custom field called "Time in Status", which gives you amount time/times an issue has spent/been in its status.
