Easier Task Status Changes

It would much faster to manage tasks statuses (to do, in progress, done) if the user could just click on the status, which already looks like a button.

Otherwise, it's necessary to click on the overflow menu, select the next stage of the task (in progress); click into the menu again, click the next stage of the task (done); repeat for several other tasks.

Instead, one click on the TO DO label changes it to IN PROGRESS and another click DONE.

Very fast and efficient. Fewer clicks.

Hi Brian - Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

This sounds like you are in a Data Center environment and not Cloud because Cloud doesn't have that "overflow" functionality.

However, you can change the order of how your statuses appear by using the opsbar sequence in the properties for the transition. That might make the next logical status show up as a button instead of the overflow. But if you have multiple next steps in your workflow, it might not be the one the user wants to go to next.

Here is more information on setting the property:

Hello @Brian Hadfield

Welcome to the Atlassian community.

Can you provide a screen image for where your users are having to click on the "overflow menu"?

In my Jira Cloud environment when I am viewing an issue it is indeed possible to simply click on the status and select another status.

Click on the Status can be done from a few locations, such as the filter screens...

...and the Child Issues and Linked Issues sections of an issue.

It is not set up that way because many workflows do not have a single line flow to them. If you are able to move to In Progress or Done from To Do, then Jira cannot know which you mean when you just click on To Do.

But you can make this a New Feature Request with Atlassian if you want.
