Can someone please help me. Need to see if I can create a new issue type that could be parent to an Epic. See the sample below:
Epic A contains following child User Stories (US 1; US2; US3; US4; US5; US6; US7; US8)
Epic 1 contains following child epics or user stories: Epic A; Epic B; US56 and etc...
Hi Mehnam,
An Epic is as high as you can go, and Jira does not allow you to link one Epic to another. Any new issue type you create will be under the Epic level. You may, however, be able to set releases as a further hierarchy:
Epic A contains following child User Stories (US 1; US2; US3; US4; US5; US6; US7; US8)
Release 1 contains following child epics or user stories: Epic A; Epic B; US56 and etc...
Or...use Components
Epic A contains following child User Stories (US 1; US2; US3; US4; US5; US6; US7; US8)
Component 1 contains following child epics or user stories: Epic A; Epic B; US56 and etc...
Finally, if the new issue type is very large, consider making them separate projects and managing the dependencies on a Program level via Portfolio or an add-on like Big Picture.
Hope this helps,
Scott

Epics cannot contain other epics.
The way to organise this is to add Portfolio and use the initiativese and themes that provides.
