"For work item XXX to be visible. It must match your project and filters, and have a status thats assigned to the board."…usually appears in Jira Software when:

You’re trying to view or access an issue (e.g., from a notification or direct link),

But the issue isn’t appearing on your board due to configuration issues like filters, statuses, or board settings.

1. Check the Board Filter Query

Make sure your work item meets this filter. Common culprits:

The filter excludes certain issue types, projects, or labels.

The issue isn’t part of the selected project(s).  

Example:

If your board’s filter is: project = ABC AND issuetype in (Story, Bug) AND status != Closed 

…then any Epic, Task, or Closed issue will not appear.

 Fix: Edit the filter to include all needed issue types or projects.

2. Check the Status Mappings

Go to: Board Settings → Columns

Here you’ll see:

The statuses your board uses (mapped to columns).

Any unmapped statuses will be listed on the right.

If the issue’s status is unmapped, it won’t appear on the board — even if it matches the filter.

Fix: Drag the unmapped status into a column.

3. Confirm Issue Belongs to the Right Project

Even if the issue is technically accessible to you, it must belong to the same project or be included in the board filter.

Fix: Ensure the issue:

Is in the correct project

OR the board filter includes its project

4. Check Issue Type Exclusions

Some boards are configured to only show certain issue types.

Fix: Add missing issue types to the board filter, or reassign the issue to an included type.

5. Check Permissions

You might not have permission to see certain issues if you aren’t in the right role or group.

Fix: Verify your project role or permissions allow you to see the issue (especially if it’s restricted via Issue Security Schemes).

Related to filters. I show Parent replaces Epic. I think this may be the issue if so, how do I correct it?

If your query is filtering out certain issue types you still need to allow epics to show. You need to update your board filter click … menu > board settings and scroll down to your board filter.
