Error when trying to assign story point to an epic's child issue

Joaquim Moraes August 22, 2024

Hello. When trying to assign story points to an epic's child issue, I receive an error that states "We couldn't set the story point value. Field 'customfield_10028' cannot be set. It is not on the appropriate screen or unknown". I'm fairly new to Jira administrations and configuration, any tips/hints would be immensely appreciated. Thank you!

HI @Joaquim Moraes  Welcome to the Atlassian community.

As shown in the error message that story point field is not available on the child issues and you need to add the story point field on the child issues screen,

Goto your projects setting page from the botton left side, then click on issues, click on screens and then edit the screen associated to the child issue-type and search for the story point field to add on that screen

Check the below screenshots for more details

Hi @Joaquim Moraes

Welcome.

Check the screens that are used in relation to the issue type you are trying to set the story point value.

Check the field Story points and see if it's present to the screen that is used on the issue type you are creating or editing.

Or use the field helper, see this article: find-a-field-on-the-issue-view

Thank you both! I didn't even get to Marc's reply. Ravina's reply was at the top and her detailed steps was the hand holding I needed...hahaha. Thank you both very much!
