We have had a legal request to provide dumps of all of our projects in JIRA.  Basically we have been asked to provide a dump of every ticket and the content of every ticket.

I am trying to find out what the best way of exporting this information is.  At the moment I have been struggling to get the right sort of data.

I did a "Export Issues" from the top of the project - but it does not seem to generate what we (they) want.  I am expecting some sort of audit trail.

also - are we able to filter by dates to limit it to a particular range ?

Suggestions ?

Thanks

M

Hi @Matt Hyne

Here is an article about exporting activity history with REST API and plugins:

How to export issue history from Jira?

If you need to export the audit trail, you can try the Issue History for Jira app. My team has developed as a journal for every past activity. Here you can filter by date range and choose any required dates.

Also, you can filter by project, sprint, label, jql, etc.

Let me know if it helps or if you have any questions.

There are ways to do this, but you do have some significant problems with them.   The date range is a minor technical problem, but the "dump of everything" is a legal one.

To whom are you going to give this information to?

Just within the EU and UK (which hasn't got round to removing itself from these rules yet), GDPR, a request for "provide dumps of every issue and the content of the issue" is fine. But it is only a request.

It is probably illegal for you to do it.  You must check that any information you hand over is GDPR compliant.  And the rest.

Your "legal request" is quite probably completely illegal, and you need to question it before giving out any data that is protected by data-protection laws.

@Matt Hyne Welcome to the Atlassian community

I had a similar request and found the best way to get the information is a format that was easy to read was to do the export to Word from the filters page.  I had to do multiple query and exports to get all the issues but found this the easiest way to get the information in a readable format.  Just create a filter that has the needed issues in it. Then run the query and click export and choose Word.  Hopefully that will work for you.

Hi @Matt Hyne

Welcome to the community 🙂

You can export only thousand issues at a time!!

Other than that when you are exporting you have an option to choose which fields to export.

Now the next set of issues which you want to export, go with the approach of filtering with date to limit the number of issues.

Or you could try any of the marketplace add-ons to export the issue

Thanks,

Pramodh
