Hello -
Do we know when the capability is available. Also is there a user-friendly way to convert the work item such as Task to any other work items quickly?
Is there a user friendly way to logically group all the requests through the forms?
Thank you,
Saima
Hi Saima,
I have not heard a timeframe for when forms will come to Jira Software projects. But I think it is sooner rather than later. Also, if the work items use the same workflow, you can simply update the issue type field - such as Task to Story. If they do not use the same workflow, you have to do a Move (under the 3 dots menu in the upper right).
Hi @Saima Siddiqui 👋
The native Forms feature in Jira Cloud (formerly from ProForma) is gradually rolling out and already available in Jira Work Management and Jira Software (company-managed and team-managed projects). If you don’t see it yet, your admin can check under Project Settings → Forms.
Public sharing is also being rolled out — but it still has some limitations (e.g., restricted fields, no attachments, no conditional logic yet).
If you're referring to converting something like a Task into a Story or another work item type:
There’s no one-click native feature, but you can change the Work Item Type (formerly Issue Type) via the issue view → More actions (⋯) → Move. This walks you through selecting the new type and mapping fields. Not ideal for bulk or daily use, but it works.
This is where tools like Smart Forms for Jira come in handy.
Smart Forms allows you to:
Collect requests via structured forms (including logic, validations, and dropdowns)
Automatically create different Work Item Types (Task, Bug, Idea, etc.) based on selections made in the form
Group submissions by project, label, priority, or even embed categorization logic into the form itself
Add multiple forms to a single issue, or collect feedback after issue creation
This gives you a lot more flexibility to organize, route, and act on requests from any team or department — and works across Jira Software, Work Management, JSM, and Jira Product Discovery.
