Getting warning about issues losing their relationship with parent epic when I have no epics

Deleted user December 30, 2022

Hello,

I'm currently migrating the whole backlog from a team managed project to a company managed project.

I moved all issues per epic separately to the epic item itself, then relinked them on the new company managed project. So I have no epic items left in my team managed project.

I now want to move all remaining items (all have no epic and there are no more epics to move), however when I try to to this use a bulk action, I get the below error:

Some issues will lose the relationship with their parent epic.

You're moving some issues away from their parent epic. To avoid losing the relationship between these issues and their parent, move the epic issue as well.

Note: The epic relationship won't be lost when moving between classic projects.

I have no epics left to move from my team managed to company managed project, so I'm unsure why this error continues to show.

Has anyone had this issue before?

Many thanks!

I've seen this before.  From my experience, you only get this message if you are moving issues that currently have a connection with an epic.  This means that if you are only moving a story/task, but not the epic, this warning will pop up.  You may not know that a story/task have a relationship with an epic, but it's there.

Thankyou. I ended up migrating all stories/ tasks epic-by epic, and then moving the epic the epic itself. Pretty manual, but it made sure everything was accounted for during the migration.

Hi @[deleted],

Is this a blocking message or just a warning? In the last case, if you are sure that you won't lose any data and the message is not blocking you from doing the move, just go ahead and transfer the issues. It may be just a generic, are you really really sure type of message.

Hope this helps!

Thankyou!

It's not blocking me from anything. But making me think I'm missing something. I may try it on a few issues instead of the whole list and check everything transfers as intended.

Many thanks,

Toni
