Hot to get breakdown of user story cycle time

Ashok Chotai October 6, 2020

There is a feature called cycle time. It basically shows total time taken for a story from Development to Closure(In Dev -> In QA -> Business Review -> Close).

How do I see the breakdown of this cycle time? I want to see how much time was needed for each step: Development, QA and Business signoff.

Hello @Ashok Chotai

You can try Time in Status for Jira Cloud. This add-on generates a report oh how long an issue has been staying in each status (Development, QA, and Business signoff.).

It also calculates Cycle and Lead time. So you can get the necessary info in a conveniently generated report.

I hope, you find this info helpful.

Hi @Ashok Chotai  and welcome to Community!

Unfortunately, displaying each status time is not a built-in feature inside Jira.

Our team at Bloompeak developed Status Time app for this exact need. It provides time passed on each status. You can group any subset of statuses and get cycle time too.

Additionally, it support multiple calendars, that is once you enter your working calendar into the app, it takes your working schedule into account too. So that, "In Progress" time of an issue opened on Friday at 5 PM and closed on Monday at 9 AM, will be a few hours rather than 3 days. It has various other reports like assignee time, status entry dates, average/sum reports(eg. average in progress time per project).

Here is the online demo link, you can see it in action and try. Hope it helps.

Hi @Ashok Chotai

Additionally, you can explore Time Between Statuses.

This app lets you set start and stop statuses for the timer. So you will be able to select your statuses for calculation Cycle time. The same tool lets you monitor Lead time and time in other groups of statuses you need.

Moreover, this add-on allows set time limits and notification for exceeded issues.

Sincerely

Hello @Ashok Chotai ,

Our team at OBSS built Time in Status app for this exact need. It is available for Jira Server, Cloud and Data Center.

Time in Status allows you to see how much time each issue spent on each status or assigned to each assignee.

You can calculate averages and sums of those durations grouped by issue fields you select. (For example see the average InProgress time per project and per issuetype). You can also combine statuses into consolidated columns to see metrics like Ticket Age, Cycle Time or Lead Time.

The app calculates its reports using already existing Jira issue histories so when you install the app, you don't need to add anything to your issue workflows and you can get reports on your past issues as well.

You can also export your data as XLS, XLSX or CSV and visualize data with various chart types.
