How Can I Link a Whole Project (Finance) to a Task in Another Project (Road Map) in Jira?

I'm currently managing multiple Jira projects, including one for Finance and another for our 12-Month Road Map. While I’m able to create Agile boards and use User Story Mapping with tools like ProductGo, I haven’t found a way to connect an entire project (e.g., the Finance project) to a specific task or epic within another project (like a Road Map item that depends on Finance activities).

I know you can link issues between projects using issue links like "blocks" or "relates to," but this only works on a per-issue basis. I'm looking for a solution that lets me:

- Associate a whole project (or its board/scope) to a single task or epic

Is there a native Jira way to do this? Or is this something only achievable through an app like Advanced Roadmaps, BigPicture, or a workaround using automation?

Any advice or examples on how to structure this kind of cross-project dependency would be greatly appreciated!

Hello @Esra Ezici

Welcome to the Community

You're looking to link an entire project's scope to a specific task or epic in another project. Unfortunately, Jira doesn't support this kind of high-level project-to-project dependency natively – it's mainly designed for granular issue linking.

But the app you are using ProductGo, can help you achieve this. With it, you can:

  • Manage multiple projects on a single Agile board.
  • Create higher-level goals (Initiative level) to represent your Roadmap items.
  • Link Epics from your Finance project directly to those overall goals, clearly showing the dependency.

This gives you that consolidated view and dependency tracking you're looking for!

You can refer to this docs: https://docs.devsamurai.com/user-story-map/user-story-map-with-multiple-projects

Hope it helps 🙌

Hi @Esra Ezici another workaround, though not a native one, is using Budgety for Jira, a budget management solution that lets you link budgets to any work item (issue). Check it out.

Hello @Esra Ezici ,

Good day, Welcome to Atlassian Community!!

One way to do this is Create an Epic on your 12-Month Road Map and link all the work items created in Finance project to that, you can use Automation for Jira to automate this, so that every time any work item is created in Finance project it is Automatically linked to that epic.

Try to increase scope of your board in 12 Month plan project to include Finance project as well.
