How can I create a chart that groups items by their parents parent?

Martin B August 30, 2023

I need to show chart that groups items by their parents parent? i.e. I need to show how many Epics were completed for the categories that these Epics are under 2 levels up.

Let's says that each Epic is under an Initiative A, B, or C and each Initiatives is under a Workstream I, II, or III.

I need to show how many Epics were completed related to each of those Workstreams.

I think some sort of Custom Chart should help me get this done, but I can't figure out how.

Thanks!

HI @Martin B

What If you use Epic Link.

Parent and Parent Link are fields related to Advanced roadmap, as you don't use this you could try to use Epic Link

Hi Marc! Thanks for the suggestion.

I just tried and Jira doesn't allow me to use the Epic Link field on Epics themselves.

Any other thoughts?

Thank you!

@Martin B

Are you Initiative linked to Epic via an Issue link?

I think so as you are on a free Cloud plan and you can't have a hierarchy.

To achieve you request, you would need an app.

You could try Swanly portfolio roadmaps

Hi @Martin B

Welcome to the community :)

My company develops Dashboard Hub for Jira - Custom Charts and Share Reports an app that empowers intuitive custom charts creation, and this is how easy you can chart by parent  👀👇

Chart by parent.gif
Dashboard Hub stands out for being one of the best value-for-money apps, much more powerful and cheaper than apps offering similar features.

In addition to custom charts, Dashboard Hub includes:

  • Nearly 100 ready-to-go gadgets (no need to build them, they’re already built!)
  • External sharing with password-protected links that can be shared in seconds (see example).
  • 12+ product integrations to combine data views from your favourite products.
  • The ability to combine data from Cloud and Data Center in the same dashboard.

And much more!

Hope this is helpful for you, feel free to reach out with any questions :) Please remember that you can try it for free for 30 days.

Hi @Martin B

Are you using Advanced Roadmaps to track your initiatives' progress? If that's the case, this article may come in handy:

https://www.oldstreetsolutions.com/advanced-roadmaps-custom-charts-jira-reporting

It explains how our app, Custom Charts for Jira, integrates with Advanced Roadmaps to give your ongoing activities a fully customized reporting experience.

Martin B August 30, 2023

I'm not using Advanced Roadmaps currently.

However, I'm using Custom Charts by Old Street Apps (I think it's the same as the one you mentioned).

However, I'm unable to query by parent as that article suggests. I don't see Parent as an option when I want to "Chart By").

Thanks!
