I wanted to add a table in Description field of a JIRA issue. I tried to use || to create table headers and use | to create a row under the header ,but it doesn't work.
Please advise. Thanks.
it doesn't work. There is a feature request for it here:
https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRACLOUD-78176
please vote for it people!
I want the same thing, to be able to add a table into the template for that issue type. This makes it obvious to the user that they need to complete a table when they create that issue type.

Hi All,
@Tarun Sapra
Is there any way i can have a predefined table created in the description field automatically when a issue type is created?
For example when i create a bug, there should already be a table in the description field so the user can fill in the requirements
In the below picture there is no table. Looking to have a 4X4 table already there when someone creates a Bug.

I just found out that I had to switch to 'Old view' to be able to create and edit tables

From the main JIRA board, the default setting was to Open Issues from Dialog. I was unable to add my table from the dialog.
However, by opening the issue in its own window.... (usually by right-clicking on the story number), I found that the old way of creating tables with || for headers and | for rows still works fine!
In fact, when you attempt to add a table in the dialog view and then open the same issue in full screen, you'll see that the Rich Text editor has added a bunch of escape characters for the pipe character.
In any case, I hope this helps!

Which version are you using. In JIRA description, it's pretty easy to insert the table using Rich text editor

Not sure if this is the version no. JIRA Service Desk Application 3.3.0
Btw, I tried enable Rich text editing, but I could not find "System" menu under . I could only see the "Projects" menu there. Is this because I am not the JIRA administrator?
