I do not have a custom department field, however I do notice the department mentioned below the org chart in the user profile when I search the name of the person under Teams.

Hey @Archana Sahu ,

Searching/filtering items in JQL by the "department" attribute from the user's Atlassian profile is not yet supported. There's a feature request for it: JRACLOUD-73346: JQL Search Atlassian account User Profile Attributes

As stated in the suggested workaround, you could use custom fields, components or labels to define these values somewhere on each item.

Cheers,
Tobi

Just to add to this, the JQL search gets executed based on the work item fields, so having a custom field holding that value is the most straightforward approach here.

The user or admin will have to fill that value during the initial setup.

Thanks!
