How can I hide deleted users from the backlog filters?

Cristian January 20, 2023

Hello,

Up until yesterday (January 20th) suspended users, as well as deleted users, did not show up in the backlog filters (where you check issues by person).

That made perfect sense, since there are no more tasks assigned to these suspended users, so we don't need a filter for them.

However, today we suddenly started seeing ALL users we've ever had in that filter.

Screenshot:

(The highlighted users were deleted months ago, we don't need to see them)

This can be a huge problem as people come and go from a project that takes 1-2 years and they start piling up in this list which is used for project management, not history-viewing. We don't need to see so many users that are no longer relevant.

How can I hide them back?

The issue has been resolved. Not sure how, all I did was rearrange the issue categories on the board -- I had a "paused" status that was at the end of the board rather than in between "To Do" and "In Progress" -- I moved it to its proper place.

Maybe my support ticket got through and it had nothing to do with that :)

I'm also having the same issue, all of 9 former users still appear in my Jira Cloud Backlog, but they aren't assigned to any issue that isn't DONE.

The users have been completely deleted from Atlassian, and they are not assigned to the Project Settings either. I've gone through the tedious task of also ensuring that not "Former User" are assignee or reporters on any Jira nor Epics.

Is there any solution to this?

I am also facing the same issue. Though the people are removed/suspended from JIRA, I am still seeing them in Backlog filters (same as in the screenshots shown in main question). Any solution for this?

Heya @Cristian !

Have you removed them directly in the project itself? This can be done by navigating to project settings -> then to people and remove them directly there! If not, it might be worth contacting your jira admin to get further support! Let me know if the solution works!

Kind Regards,

Yes, they are not in the project access list. See screenshot:

Changing the project a "private" one doesn't remove them either.

Do you know if those users are associated to a project role or group? This might have an effect as if they are still contained within those roles then they'll still be searchable?

Cristian January 21, 2023

They aren't listed literally anywhere but in this backlog filter.

I've deleted their accounts entirely,

1) They are not in the project "Roles",
2) They are not in Atlassian Administration "Users"
3) They are not in the Atlassian Administration "Groups"
4) They are not in the project's "Issues" search when you filter by assignee, even if you press show full list > show more.
5) They are not in the "Advanced Search" when you filter by assignee. Actually most of my users are not there.

They are not anywhere in any filters, except the backlog filter by assignee.

The ARE however visible if you manually find the old issues and they show up as (inactive); See screenshot: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1WBEpYB729hCzqG-rc3xfL7u0PFtIVjQs/view?usp=share_link

Trying to open their profiles leads to this: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1QM9SVq16zdSxf0nG_8hmXQSl_UF_52Ml/view?usp=share_link

1) Moreover, there is at least one old user that does NOT show up in our current backlog filter like the others, even though she has assigned cards from the past from the same time period.

2) These same users worked on other projects in the past, projects which are still active, but they show up only in this one single project and none of the others.

I've contacted support, too.
