How can I mark a task or project with a star?

Deleted user August 12, 2020

On the interface "my work" I have three tabs: viewed, assigned to me and marked. But how can I mark projects and tasks so that they are listed under "marked"?

From one of the last software versions I remember a small yellow star that I found very useful as a bookmark. Where did it disappear to?

Hi Michael,

Unfortunately, no, you can't currently star an issue. You can vote for and follow along with the feature request here:

https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRACLOUD-74384

Hi @[deleted] ,

like this one, you still can't find it now?

Thank you for pointing that out, I didn't know.

But you used to be able to tag epics and tasks. Almost all the things I do are in one and the same project. So unfortunately the marked project doesn't really help me yet.

As far as I know, for the mark of a single Issue, you can only achieve it by adding watchers.

But unfortunately "watching" is a passive process to be notified of changes. Since there is no possibility to display all watched tasks in a list, it is not suitable as workaround for the missing stars. It's a real pity that this feature has been forgotten in the update.

What's missing is a quick and easy way to create a simple, flexible to-do list just for yourself - across all tasks and epics that can be edited quickly and easily. For me, the list with the stars was always the first thing I looked at during the working day. Apparently, I was one of very few.

I'm a new user and looking for the exact same thing with Tasks, Michael. You are not alone! :)

This was just shared with me by a colleague.

Go to Issues (It's on the left navigation for me.) >>> Select "Reported by Me" or any of the other options, and you can sort all of your issues. I only have tasks, so that's all that shows up for me.

You CAN star this page to bookmark it as well.

Thank you for the tipp, Nathan. I will check it out. I have now also found a good work around that is easy to implement. I bookmark the tasks in my browser (Chrome) and drag them into a bookmark folder, which I place in the toolbar. This way I have a kind of drop down menu of my Jira To Do List.

Hello, as others have mentioned it is not currently possible to "star" an Issue as a favorite in Jira Cloud.

We created a Jira Cloud app that allows you to add Issues to your own personal favorites list. Favorites are scoped to individual user accounts, so everyone on your team can favorite issues independently:

You can even create multiple personal favorites lists to further categorize Issues that are relevant to you. You can also search for issues that you've assigned to your personal custom favorites lists using JQL.

The app is called Issue Star, and you can find it here: https://marketplace.atlassian.com/1234079

Try the app out, and let us know what you think. Thanks!

So to summarise what I have understood from this thread:

- On 'Your work' I have a tab 'Starred'

- Currently I can only 'Star' Projects

- Currently I cannot 'Star' issues (I have added my vote to https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRACLOUD-74384)

- On an Issue, I have two options

  - Watch - emails me updates to that issue

  OR

  - Add Flag

Does anybody know what adding a Flag does?

Hi Keri - Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

Adding a Flag is Jira's way of denoting blocked work. Or at least that's the way we use it. But it will add a Flag icon to the issue on the board as well as shade it a light yellow.

And I guess you could use it (the field is called Flagged) in any query/JQL/filter.

@John Funk I appreciate this answer. Could you explain what blocked work is? Like others on this thread, I've been looking for a way to star or otherwise track tasks that I'm partially responsible for but where I am not the assignee (since Jira only allows one assignee). Thank you!

Hi @Kate Aid  - Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

Blocked work is really whatever you define it to be. We define it as something that I want to work on but I physically can't because something is preventing me from making progress on it. Until that thing is removed, I can't work on it.

We use the Flag feature to identify that work. When the blocker/obstacle is removed, we simply clear the Flag.
