I have noticed in the new view of Jira , it is not clear (to me anyway) on how to see the Parent of a subtask.
In the old view, the parent ticket path was visible at the top, In the example, I have attached.
I have a task = SI-4010 and have created a Subtask = SI-4012 you can see in the screenshot from the old view that the Parent is displayed.
However, in the new view, you can only see the link for SI-4012 (Subtask)
Is there a setting I need to change to see the Parent or is it just not available in the new view?
Thanks
Hi @Martin ,
In the new view of the Jira cloud, parent issue link in the subtask is not shown. We opened a request(https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRACLOUD-73038) with Atlassian for the feature to be available in the new view.
Thanks,
Ravya
Sadly, for our on prem version, there is no solution to this problem. If you have a subtask, there is no way to find its parent task. For this reason, we general don't use subtask. As our Jira doesn't have the concept of a task either (only stories or sub-tasks), and sub tasks cannot be crated on their own, we frequently create new stories as subtasks and link them with a "relates to" relationship (as there doesn't exist a relationship for parent/child). Its incredibly limiting.

Hi Martin,
If you want a birdseye view of your issues you might like Agile Docs.
It lets you see your entire hierarchy of issues on one page (including what issues sub-tasks are attached to).
And you can create and edit issues directly from there.

Hi Rhys,
My query was originally about a separate bug that has been fixed since. Your plugin looks interesting. However, I don't have a need for that currently. Thanks.

Hi @Martin
I have to say that I hadn't noticed this, because it's only if you open it in a separate tab.
If you just open the pop-up window from the new view, it shows as below, where 8562 is the parent of 8606

Yes so the scenario I would be using and where I see the issue is that if someone sends a link. The link would open the subtask in a new tab resulting in the path not being displayed.

Hi,
We have the same issue wether we open the task in a separate tab or in a pop-up window. Up until yesterday we could see the parent task/story related to a subtask in the breadcrumb, as you showed, but today it's not showing anymore. It's a HUGE step back for us...

Hi @Martin @Dania Morin ,
I guess the issue is fixed now, we were able to view the parent link as usually, this might be because of new changes happening in Atlassian cloud.
