Hi,

I am sorry, I need to be more precise. When using the iPhone App Jira Cloud and I cannot unassign an issue from an epic that has been assigned to an epic before. So when an issue was assigned to an epic in can only be assigned to other epics but it cannot be completely unassigned to any epic. In the browser-based Jira Cloud one can do this, but in the iPhone App an issue once assigned to an epic cannot be unassigned anymore so that it does not belong to any epic.

If you are using next gen project in cloud, then you can use roadmap feature to add issues to epics. Currently you can't add issues of non-next gen projects to epics of next-gen projects.
