How did someone access a project that I created without my permission?

Hi,

I created a project earlier today and I have now received several emails informing me that someone I did not add to my project has deleted the project, edited the project and added other people to the project.  I would like to leave the project, but since I don't know the "Project Lead" it seems impossible for me to leave.

Hello @Alexis Potter

Are you a Jira Administrator for the instance?

Are you using a Free subscription or a paid plan?

Did you create a Team Managed project or a Company Managed project? It would say at the bottom of the navigation pane on the left.

If you are not a Jira Administrator, then you likely created a Team Managed project as only Jira Administrators can create Company Managed projects.

For Team Managed projects, any user that has the Administrator role in that project can delete the project. And if you are using a Free Jira subscription, all users with access to the Jira instance are administrators for all projects, according to the documentation, which would give all users the ability to delete the project and change who has access to it.

Hi Alexis - Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

Only a Jira Administrator would be able to Delete a project (or move it to Trash). You should be able to see who did that in the Settings > System > Audit Log

If they are adding people, changing permissions, etc. they would need to be a Project Administrator. So I would check all of those things first.

@Alexis Potter  Did you check the project permission scheme?

If you can hide any confidential information then share with us screenshots from Permission Scheme can be very helpful.

Best,

Fadoua
