I am wanting to have radio buttons for my tasks, or a drop-down option instead of letting employees freehand what is going on.

That way we can track what teams should be working on what category of issue. it would make for reporting purposes a world of difference.

limiting their options will help keep them within guidelines so we can categorize issues on the board and expand upon them within the tasks.

Similar to how advanced forms can be  generated.

but I want to avoid the step of creating a task to just have the flexibility of a form from within the tasks.

Hi @Nick Schneider

It's Mary from Planyway

Implementing radio buttons or a drop-down menu in Jira to categorize tasks can indeed streamline the tracking and reporting process. This is achievable by customizing Jira's issue types and fields. Here's a step-by-step approach:

  1. Custom Fields Creation:

    • Navigate to Jira Administration > Issues.
    • Select Custom Fields and click on Add Custom Field.
    • Choose the type of field you want to add. For radio buttons, select the Radio Buttons field type, and for a drop-down list, choose the Select List (single choice) type.
    • Give the field a descriptive name and a description that explains its purpose.
  2. Configuring Options:

    • After creating the field, you will be prompted to configure it. Here you can add the options for your radio buttons or drop-down menu.
    • Enter the categories or issues types you want your team to select from.
    • Remember, these should align with your reporting and tracking needs.
  3. Associate the Field with Screen:

    • Once the field is created and options are configured, you need to associate it with the appropriate screens.
    • Go to Screens in the issue administration section.
    • Add your new custom field to the relevant screens where you want it to appear, such as the task creation or edit screens.
  4. Field Configuration Scheme:

    • You may need to associate your new field with a Field Configuration Scheme.
    • This step ensures that the field behaves correctly within different project contexts or issue types.

Welcome to the community @Nick Schneider

The best option here is to create a custom field that will have a radio button as a value, where you can add values for radio buttons.

Also, when you need to add this custom field to your screen and also to enable it when the issue is being created by clicking Show fields and selecting custom fields, then checking the field that you have created.

Nikola
