I want to create multiple sub projects. There are ways to create projects with 'label', but it is not easy to search. Is there a way to create sub projects?

Hi @Md Ishtiaqur Farooqui

There isn't a sub-project option - but there are a few options you can consider:

  • Components: These are categories within a project. Set by a Project Admin, these are specific to just one project. Multiple components can be added to one issue.
  • Epics: These could be used to break a project into smaller components - building blocks to deliver the overall objective. Stories / Sub-tasks are then placed below them.
  • Project Categories: Going in the other direction, you can group multiple projects into a category. This is a simple free-text field and can be used in searches to locate multiple projects' issues at the same time
  • Advanced Roadmaps: Jira Premium comes with Advanced Roadmaps - which allows you to have additional hierarchical issue levels above Epic. That way, you could add a new issue type of "Initiative" (or similar) - as parents of Epics, which act as sub-projects.
  • Apps: Apps like Structure for Jira also allow for flexibility in your issue hierarchy

Let us know if any of these options are of interest - or if you have any questions about configuring one!

Jira doesn’t have a formal concept of sub-project. I would consider Epics to be project within a project.

Hi

in my opinion, it’s the component goal.
