How do I create the issue type hierarchy?

Ok this is a total newbie question, but I'm trying to setup my issue types up correctly.

Here's our hierarchy from highest level to lowest:

  • Theme
  • Mission
  • Feature
  • Story
  • Subtask

So for example, if we create a story (something that is under 2 days of work) we want to be able to see what Feature, Mission and Theme that story rolls up to.

Does that make sense?  Here is what I see today.  It looks like the "Themes" title is actually a "story" type which is causing problems with proper nesting.

Also, ideally we could add subtasks under any of these (a subtask could be added to a mission or feature or story).

Thanks in advance for the help!

Hi Amanda,

Have a look at linking issues and configuring issue link types to set up what you'd like.

The issue links will display related issues, but there's no hierarchy per se - only standard issue types and sub-tasks (and issues in Epics if you're using Jira software).

Sub-tasks can be added to any level provided sub-tasks are turned on for your environment.
