How do I delete custom fields?

I have created a custom field that does not make sense anymore. I want to use that field's name for another field I want to create. Therefore, I'd like to delete the old useless field, but I can't find how. In the project settings there's only the option to edit the field description.

This page has not helped because there is no Custom fields section under Administration > System

A suggestion:

If the field you want to delete has value in some issues in projects in jira, this value will be lost.

I would recommend that you change the name of the field you want to delete, to something like: customfield_OLD

And save. That way you don't lose the base history of this field.
