How do I get a custom text field to show up outside of the Details section

Hello,

We are running Jira 8.5.4 currently.  I have created a custom text field and have added it to all screens we use in the project.  It appears where I have placed it on the "edit" screen, but on the view screen, it shows up under the "Details" section.  The default "view screen" for this project was updated to place this new field where we want it, but it still only appears in the the Details section until Edit is clicked, then it appears in the proper location.  What might I be missing?

Hi,

That's where majority of custom fields end up (depending on the field type). Text fields will all appear in the Details section below system fields and there is no way to change it without doing some hacking and cracking (no idea how to even relocate fields on view screen or where to start to be honest).

I'm not though entirely sure where you would expect the field to show up other than in the Details section?

Anyhow first the system fields show up in fixed order, and then custom fields below it in the order you place them on the view screen.

Date field types show up in the 'Dates' tab, user and group field types go to the 'People' tab, everything else goes to the 'Details'.
