How do I make the tick beside a subtask go away

I have created a few sub-tasks under a story. Once I mark a sub-task as done, a tick would appear under Sub-tasks section of a story. However, if I want to change the status of the sub-task back to "to do", the tick still persists. Is there a away to make it go away?

Good morning Q_M, 

please check the resolution field of the sub-task with the tick. You can find the resolution field below the status if you go into the detail view of your issue. 

If the resolution does not show "unresolved", that could be the reason why the tick is still there. 
If an issue has a resolution set, Jira recognizes the issue as resolved. If the resolution is "unresolved", it's unresolved for Jira as well. There's not native connection to your "Done" status.
