How do I move a Task (and its sub-tasks) to be a Parent?

Hi!
A long time ago we created an Epic/Parent and some Tasks have been added during the time.
Now I have realized that one of the Tasks will be easier to handle if I level it up to be on Epic/Parent Level.

I can create a new Epic/parent with the same name, and move the task to the new parent - but I really want This Task and its sub-tasks to be a Parent/Epic.

Is it even possible?

All the best

Hi @janely_melin ,

Yes it is possible, but you would have to convert the issue-types through "moving".

Also, please be aware, an Epic is unable to have sub-tasks as the epic ranges one level above the task in the issue hierarchy which you can not change in standard plan.

Open the task issue to convert into an epic, click on the three dots ... on the far right and select "Move". Now follow the dialog to change the issue type.

Maybe, before you do that, convert this task's sub-tasks to tasks and write down their issue keys. Then convert the task to an epic and attach the now task issues to it.

Hi @David Friedrich .

Thanks for the solution. Good point with Sub Task. I hadn't thought of that - so I'd lost them. Thanks.
Very helpful answer.
All the best, JL
