How do I see the timeline earlier than 12 months?

I need to view the timeline further than 12 months. I am doing a final report on a project 2.5 years long and need a screenshot of the whole gantt. I'm also trying to learn from this project to better plan the next which could be multiple years long too.

The new interface prevents me from scrolling back further than 12 months, in week, month or quarter view.

Welcome to Atlassian Community!

Currently, that's a limitation with the timeline available in the board. It can't display work items older than 12 months.

The timeline view in Advanced Roadmaps can span over multiple years. However, it is available with Premium and enterprise plans only.

I'm afraid it's not possible with the default Jira and to get timeline visible you will need either to stick to Jira Premium or consider third-party apps suggesting timeline/roadmap/Gantt view. For example, Planyway for Jira timeline is not limited in time. By the way, the app is free for teams up to 10 users.
