How do I set field permissions based on users?

Hi,

I am using company-managed projects and my team has been using the Priority field for our work items since a while. However, to better manage this, I would like to set permissions for this field so that only the Product Manager can change it.

I have been checking the app in the Jira marketplace called Secure Custom Fields for Jira by Ricksoft Inc.

But I cannot find the option to set permissions for the Priority field using this app as well.
Has anyone else used this?
Thanks.

Hi @Amulya Sankara , thanks for your post.

There is a possible workaround for this using a global transition.

In the workflow for the work item type, if you create a transition like this, you can create a transition screen with just the field, 'Priority' on it.

You can then have a workflow Condition to allow for only certain users / groups / roles to be able to see and action this transition

Then, in the work item, if you have the correct permission, you should be able to update the priority

Finally, you just need to remove priority from the edit, but not the view screen, of the work item and this should work.

I hope this helps you.

I agree with @Valerie Knapp answer where there is no need of any plugin.

Hi @Amulya Sankara

You can try @Valerie Knapp workaround or reach out to the support of the app (Ricksoft)

Field Permission don't exist in Jira.

You can try the workaround of @Valerie Knapp

If you want to use automation, you can create a rule like this that checks who made the change and reverts it if the condition for that user is not met.
