How do i create Automation so Story status doesnt change when Updating task Status

Whenever a task is put into a new status for my projects, the Parent Story for that task is also updated to match the status of the Task. i need it to stop

This is actually the other way around - Jira does not lock status across issues by default.  You have an automation, project setting, or script, that you need to turn off!

Have you checked the Automation rules for that specific project?

If you are a Project Admin or Jira Admin, you can do that by clicking on Project Settings at the bottom of the left Project panel. Then click on Automation in the same left panel. See if there is an Automation rule doing you this disfavor.
