For any apps that require manual updates, how do you manage pushing those updates without negatively impacting your users?

  • Do you push the changes to a sandbox and ask your users to test?
    • How do you get app-data into your sandbox?
  • Do you push the update button as soon as you see it available?
  • Do you ever need to rollback? If so, how do you perform a rollback of a plug-in in the cloud environment?

Hi Mathew,

In my experience both talking to others and at my own company there is no such thing as negatively impacting users. Someone will always complain.

we do the first option as you mentioned, someone I collaborate with often just updates them right away.

So there really is no right or wrong answer

What is important is to have a change management process and policy signed off by your leadership. From there just follow the policy you set and share it with users if they complain.

There was one situation we considered rolling back however rolling back is risky because you never know what changes are included in an app update. For instance one app we have if we were to downgrade it, well when it gets updated new db tables get added to the tooling, and sometimes replace old ones. So if we downgrade it may not find tables to work with.

Best,

Clark
