How does jira remembers the latest project/version browsed by the user?

How does jira remembers the latest project and its version browsed recently by the user?

When i click on the Projects link how it remembers the last browsed project and shows that project's summary page?

Can i get the same details in any of the Jira Java API classes. Is there any class which has say some method like getRecentProjectBrowsed / getRecentVersionBrowsed ...etc etc..

I want specifically the project and the version used in the classic board..
