How to Change Jira Issue Type without going through Bulk Migrate

Nor Aqilah January 21, 2025

Hi,
I want to change my jira issue type to BUG but when I change it, it goes to this page.
This only happens when I try to change to BUG type. but when I try to change to other type, it will just directly change.
I've makesure that we don't have different workflow for any of the issue type and the field is also same for all..

Hello @Nor Aqilah ,

Good day! :)

There could be few possibilities why it is redirecting you to bulk operation page instead of instant issue type change.

  • Workflows: May be both Task and Bug issue type are using different workflows.
  • Field configurations. May be there are certain fields which are marked required in case of Task issue type and therefore when you are trying to change the issue type, it is showing the move window because that's where you will find other options to change, for example it will ask you update the required fields. You can validate the field configuration associated with both the issue types.

Thank you!

Thank you for your comment,
My Issues has all the field same with other issue, and all the issue type is in one workflow.

I'm still not sure why it happens, but the solution i found is:

I create a new issue type, and then transfer all the issue related to the new type and delete the problematic issue type.
After that my issue is resolved..

Hopes this helps for other people.
