I can create and view issues under the Issues tab of my Company-Managed project, which is a Scrum board. But then, when I click on the Backlog tab on the left panel, I don't see them there.
When I try to create issues directly on the bottom (Backlog) panel of the Backlog tab, I get a message that reads:
Your issue ISPROJECTS-10 has been created but is not currently visible.
...and then that issue will show up under the Issues tab.
I'm not seeing how to bring Issues into the Backlog of my project so they stay there and can be pulled into a Sprint. Can someone tell me what I am doing incorrectly or missing?
I do have Admin permissions.
Thanks in advance!
Cole
Hello @Cole Simonson
What is the Filter Query you have used for this board? Can you share that with us? You would find that under Board Settings > General.
Your board Filter Query may be excluding the issues you are creating.
Also, can you share with us the mapping of Statuses to Columns for your board? You would find that under Board Settings > Columns.
If you have Statuses in the Unmapped Statuses area of that screen, any issues in those Statuses will not show up in your Board nor in your Backlog.
Hi @Trudy Claspill - Thanks for your help. I believe, at first, I had no filter set up, so earlier today, just trying stuff, I created one that only specifies the project name for the project that I want the Issues to show up in. Here it is:
And, here are the Statuses for Columns:
Thanks!

Hello @Cole Simonson
All boards have a base filter that selects which issues will be displayed in the board. In the image you pasted that shows the Columns, click on the General option above that on the left. Scroll down and you'll see the Filter Query. Example:
If your board filter is simple, specify just the project similar to the one in my example, then the issue likely has to do with you not having mapped all the Statuses to Columns as shown in your image here:
This page shows you all the possible Status values for issues that are pulled in by the Filter Query for the board. All the Statuses (the little boxes) have to be mapped to columns (in the area within the green box). Any issue that have Statuses that appear in the Unmapped Statuses area (the area within the red box) will not be shown in your Board nor in your Backlog.
While this page is titled "Columns", you may think that means just the columns that appear in the Board view. But this also applies to what issues will show in your Backlog view. The difference is that in the Backlog view the information is not arranged in Columns; that applies only to the Board view.

@Trudy Claspill - You nailed it! Thanks so much! The issue was that the column you highlighted in red directly above - Unmapped Statuses - had a Status of 'Open', showing '7 issues' - all of my missing issues. When I moved it over to the To Do column, then all of my issues show up on the Backlog page for the Project and I can pull them into the first sprint that I would create.
Question - I'm not sure of the implications of having these other unused statuses in the Unmapped Statuses column; maybe issues disappear when they are Reopened, for instance. So, I dragged Reopened to the In Progress Column, and I dragged both Closed and Resolved to my Done Column. That should work, right?
Thanks again! Very appreciated.

Hello @Cole Simonson
Glad I could help.
To accept an answer you have to accept the entire answer thread vs. one individual response within the thread.
Regarding the other statuses in the Unmapped column, you are exactly correct. If issues moved to those statuses, then those issues would no longer be displayed on your board nor in your Backlog screen. You do have to includes those also in the columns.
And, when working with a Scrum board, when you get to the point of running your sprints and are ready to Complete a sprint, you will get a pop up telling you how many issues are "unresolved" and asking if you want to move those back to your Backlog or to another sprint. What Jira means by "unresolved" in that case is that the issues are in a status that is not mapped to the column farthest to the right (the one you named Done). So, if you Closed, Resolved, and Done statuses all mean that the work is complete, then you do want to have those all mapped to that right-most column.

Awesome. Thanks so much. Verrry helpful! :)
Next, I'm seeing that I need to clean up my workflow. It's a learning process...

@Trudy Claspill solved this question, above, but there was no 'Accept Answer' button next to hers.
I had unmapped Statuses. See her image with the red and green outlines around the boxes, and her comment there.

The solution: See @Trudy Claspill entry above with the green-outlined and red-outlined boxes in the image. That was the answer. (That one did not show an 'Accept Answer' button.)

The description you have is a bit odd.
Could you:
I can’t think of any other cause offhand than these but they are a good place to start

Could you also check if the first status and issue gets to is mapped to a column?
