Thank you for helping me out there. Would you please help me with “How to add hierarchical structure on Jira?” . Currently, I have worked on a project on Jira. At this point, I would like to add on "task" and "subtask" levels under the level "User Story". To sum up, my question is how to add more layers below "User Story" in Jira’s hierarchical structure.

Your help is highly appreciated. Please let me know if I make my question clear.

Thank you.

Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

Jira's standard hierarchy is just "issue" -> "sub-task".   Issue is the general term for all the types of items that might be used (Jira lets you create many issue types and call them what you want.  If you're trying to be agile, I strongly recommend going with Jira's default issuet type of "story"

Off the shelf, it does no other layers.  But if you add Jira Software, you get Epics,

Then this question gets a bit fuzzier - where do you really want to go next?

Advanced Roadmaps (a premium feature) adds a load of layers from Epic upwards.  Apps like BigPicture and EasyAgile also do that. If you want other layers, look to Structure.

Hi @Cici He ,

The multi-layer structure is only an option and may not be suitable for all scenarios. Some plugins can be extended.

As @Nic Brough -Adaptavist-mentioned, you may need to clarify why the organization needs multiple layers and how the team is going to take advantage of those layers, do we really need such a complex structure?

Hi @Cici He

You can use Jira Issue Links to create your own hierarchy below user stories.

If you are fine with a mktplace app to visualize this hierarchy, we have created an add-on to track the progress of your projects at each Issue hierarchy level.

Thanks for the mention @Nic Brough -Adaptavist-

Hi @Cici He 👋

Tenille here from Easy Agile. Easy Agile TeamRhythm uses a story map format to help you see your Jira issues in context. The story map is built around the epic layer, with user stories and sub-tasks able to be viewed beneath. You can also configure an initiative layer above your epics.

You can watch a short product tour on our website. You can also click through to the sandbox demo from that page, to try an online version of our apps using sample Jira data.

The update to display sub-tasks on the user story map was just released yesterday, but I can share our help documentation on that:

Hope that helps! Always happy to answer any questions you might have.

Cheers
