Our team recently (within the last few days) moved our Jira and Confluence from on-site servers to the Cloud, and I've received some complaints from users about excessive email notifications being sent. We have the Recommended Updates Email set to "Send by Default" and "Default Schedule: Weekly", but I see no further configuration options listed here.
The email that seems to be "spamming" everyone's email is the notification sent when updates are made to a space, page, etc. I'd like to reset the frequency of these messages from an "on change" event to be a single, daily message, which includes all edits made on that day, and set this behavior as the default for all users in my organization.
I've been through all of the Admin/Config menus, and cannot seem to locate any options for configuring email notification behavior. We have around 50 users currently, so editing these settings for each and every user would be a tiresome task, and I'd like this behavior to be applied to all new users added in the future as well.
I did search the marketplace for the "No Email Storm" add-on, and couldn't find anything compatible with our instance of Confluence. Our configuration is standard, including only one user-installed add-on (a "widget" for creating diagrams in content pages).
Some additional information: I reviewed the email/notification settings for one of the users who brought this to my attention, and the selected options are "Autowatch", "Subscribe to new follower notifications", "Show changed content", and "Subscribe to recommended updates" only. The user is not subscribed to daily updates, blog posts, or network notifications, but the user was "watching" the space that was being edited extensively/frequently, and stated that they received an email notification for every "published" edit made.
Are these notification settings set on the Space? Is there a way to change the behavior of the "Publish" action on a content page to not immediately notify "watchers" of the edit?
Hey Nicholas,
I understand it's been quite some time since you posted this question. I will just try to add some clarification in case someone else bumps into this post.
So you are overall right - at the moment there is no such functionality that would switch to "daily" or "weekly" notification updates in Confluence.
We do have a Suggestions around this, however there was no progress:
[Allow users to receive a daily digest of notifications|https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/CONFCLOUD-51741]
[Personalized daily notifications|https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/CONFCLOUD-5566]
Also, I am not aware of any specific add-ons that could address this issue.
Since it's been some time ago, let us know if there were any changes recently from your side or if you found a way to workaround it.
Regards,
Vasily
