How to convert Epic with Tasks into Task with Sub-tasks

I have a main Epic E1 which has linked Epics E2, E3, etc.  Each of the linked epics E2, E3, etc. help in fulfilling the main Epic E1.  Each linked epic has its own Tasks.

It was recently decided to abandon this structure and keep only the main Epic E1, and convert all linked Epics E2, E3.. into Tasks under E1, and all previous Tasks into subtasks of the converted epics.

Current: EPIC has Epics has Tasks

Proposed: EPIC has Tasks has subtasks

Is there a way to easily convert Epics with Tasks into Task with subtasks?

Hi @Tushar Mathur ,

this is doable with some manual effort.

You can easily change the issue type from the UI if they are sharing the same workflow, if they have different workflows you can use the Move.

Anyway, I would use the following approach:

  1. Bulk Move the Tasks (Epic by Epic) into Sub-Tasks and select the corresponding Epic as the parent
  2. Change the issue type of the Epics into Tasks (you can also do it in bulk)
  3. Link the Task to the Epic E1 with the Epic Link

I hope this helps

Hi @Tushar Mathur - You can export the issues in CSV with Key, Summary and Issue Type and then import it after updating the Issue Type column.
