Hi,

I'm looking to create an admin-level service user that only has read access to the site.

We currently have two use cases for this user:

1. Pull Backups. For this, the user needs to have admin permissions but it doesn't need to be able to modify items

2. Perform user maintenance. We want to automatically crawl the user base looking for users who haven't logged in for a while.

Both those use cases require admin, the second case even requires access to the organization-administration but neither case requires rights to modify items.

Is it possible to create such an admin user with restricted rights?

Best Regards

Matthias

Hello @Matthias Holzapfel ,

I hope you managed to solve your issue, as acess controls and backups are critical part of security.

I work at GitProtect - a backup and Disaster Recovery software for Jira Cloud, JWM, and JSM - the solution that allows to automate backups to level up data protection. With the backup software it's easy to enable role-based access controls, so that you can easily manage your team permissions by grouping them with similar needs and privileges under predefined roles. You can read more about it here - Role-based Access Controls.

If you are interested to learn more about GitProtect backups, you can always contact our team and ask us the questions you are interedsted in.

Kind regards,

Daria

Hi Matthias,

I am not aware of any mechanism for a user to be a Read-only Admin in Jira. Your best bet would be to use an Admin account and then capture the data and post in Confluence or in your internal environment somewhere with read only.

You might take a look at the Revyz Configuration Manager app in the Marketplace. Full transparency, I am an advisor to Revyz. But I think you will find it to be a good tool.
