Good Afternoon,
I have a process that has about 15 subtasks. This process is repeated multiple times a month for various internal projects. I've created a Task that is called "Template" and I have to clone the task to duplicate the "Template" that I've created. There are a few challenges I've ran into with this method. Each "Cloned" sub-task has the word "Clone" in front of it, which I have to go through and manually delete. Additionally, my "Template" has vanished from my board.
I have seen online that Jira has a capability to create an actual "template" in jira - under "issue type". Unfortunately this capability is not an option for me. Can you please help me set this up?
Hello @angela.furst
If you're seeking for an easy way to clone a template issue with its subtasks, you can try our app Elements Copy & Sync that allows you to clone and sync a full hierarchy of issues with all their content (summary, description, custom fields, comments, attachments, etc).
The "clone word" won't appear in the title, and you will keep your template in your board.
You can check our guide here.
The app is for free during 30 days (and it stays free under 10 users).
You can check out this article to see how this use case can be achieved using Jira automation. When defining the summary for the cloned issues, you can skip the part where 'CLONE' is added at the beginning.

Hello @angela.furst
Welcome to the Atlassian community.
There is a global setting that determines if "CLONE-" will be prepended to the Summary. You can contact your Jira Administrators to see if they are willing to remove that.
An alternative to a third party app is to use an Automation Rule. Automation rules can be created by Jira Admins and also Project Admins (if that is allowed by the Jira Admins). However there are limits to how many rule executions you can have in a month, so you would need to consider how many times the rule would need to be run, and consult with your Jira Admins to find out if that would push your instance over its limit.
Let us know if you need more information on that option.

There is no native feature which allows you to create templates for issues. As you mentioned, you can only clone existing issues.
You can achieve it using 3rd party apps, for example, our Issue Templates Agent for Jira. First of all you have to define the template for task with these 15 subtasks. After that, when you open a Create issue screen and use this template, all these subtasks will be created. Of course, you can also put some predefined values for the Create issue screen, for example Summary, Description or other custom fields.
