Hi SamK,
I am Marlene from codefortynine.
You could create a dashboard view, which shows the stories per epics and their status, using our Marketplace app Quick Filters for Jira Dashboards.
On the screenshot below you can see the "Quick Filter Results" gadget on the right, which shows the key, issue type, description, status and epic link. On the left side you can see the "Quick Controller" gadget, which enables you to filter the Quick Filter Results gadget per Epic. It is also possible to create filters for any other Jira field.
If you want to test our app without installation, you can check out our demo dashboards.

Hi SamK,
You could try the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) dashboard gadget offered by our Great Gadgets app. It does the grouping for you and displays the issues from a filter in form of Epic > Stories, Tasks > Subtaks along with their status, exactly as you want.
All you have to do is to create a filter that returns all the issues to be grouped, and to configure the gadget to use this filter.
This app offers many other gadgets that you might find useful.
If you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at support@stonikbyte.com.
Thank you,
Danut M.

Hey SamK -
This post might help: https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Jira-questions/Create-a-filter-showing-multiple-epics-and-all-stories-linked-to/qaq-p/1610541
If you are looking for something that is less effort and are open to working with a 3rd party we have exactly what you are looking for "out of the box" in minware.
Below you can see a screenshot from our Value Stream Report - I've grouped by Epic and each can be expanded to show stories -> all of the way down to the commit level. Status is shown as you can see and you can also apply the various filters that you see in the upper right.
We offer a free trial - let me know if you want to check it out!
Dan
