Laks February 27, 2012

I am trying to migrate all my test case and defects from Rally onto JIRA. All my test cases and defects from Rally are exported into a CSV file. I would like to know how i should import them into JIRA?

Hi,

From your description it looks like you are using JIRA OnDemand, (or JIRA Studio - an older Atlassian hosted offerings).

In this case you need to apply this trick - https://answers.atlassian.com/questions/23019/importing-via-csv-and-sysadmin-account/23027 - as CSV importer UI is hidden for normal admins in this mode (it's only available for sysadmins). Good news is that we are making CSV importer (and a few other importers) available for normal admins without such trick in a very near future.

I'm a fan of JCLI but isn't it easier to just use the built-in CSV importer? Google for the docs...

Where can i find the wizard to use built-in CSV importer? I tried the Administation>Wiki>configuration>Import spaces

to import my csv file. But it wouldn't let me import it.

An example for jcli can be found at https://studio.plugins.atlassian.com/browse/JCLI-119 You still need to add the parameters for the base url and the credentials of the user who must have the permission to create issues, e.g. something like that: --server https://myserver.com/jira --user admin --password 123456

Thank you so much Dieter. I don't come across the import csv wizard. I have logged in as the administrator but still i cannot see the import csv wizard under administration.

I'd be glad if jcli can help in your situation, anyway it's strange you can't find the import wizard. Can you check if the plugin exists and is enabled? Also make sure you have the proper global permission JIRA administrators

Ya it will be great. I am not sure if the plugin exits, where do i verify that but im pretty sure that i have the JIRA admin rights.

in the second comment from the top you mention Wiki - are you sure you are looking in the JIRA admin section?

Thanks webwesen.

I believe so, Yes. I was looking in the administration screen. I saw 3 tabs: General, Issues and Wiki. I chose wiki, so does that mean i am at the wrong section?

It really depends how often you import issues. If you have to migrate projects again and again, i.e. If Importing is a really repetive task, i'd suggest to learn JCLI because it will save you a lot of time and you also can delegate this work to some experienced user. Afaik the GUI importer is only available for the jira-administrators, but not sure if this has changed in Jira 5
