How to link an issue in current sprint to an old, finalized issue that have been worked before?

It seems I can only link issues to open issues right now, whereas I want to link a user story to a user story that have been finalized a while ago in the earlier sprint as a reference that my developers can go through!

Hello! You should be able to link any issue from Jira, which you are allowed to see. 

Can you try exact issue key, like ABC-123? It should do the trick for you.
