How to log work on next-get software project? Feature seems to be disabled.

Tim Kersten February 18, 2019

Logging work on an issue in a next-gen software project doesn't seem to be possible. I'm an admin, so it can't be a permissions issue, can it? We do not use estimation, backlog or sprints.

On the issue view, I can see "Activity", which lets me select "Work log" , shows no work logged. All of the "..." menus show no option to log work.

How can I log work?

Hello @Tim Kersten

As Alexey mentioned, time tracking is not available in Next-Gen projects. More, it is not on a roadmap so we don't know if and when Atlassian is planning to make it available.

However, there is an issue to track and vote: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JSWCLOUD-17447

In the meantime, until the feature is added by Atlassian, you might want to use a third-party app that helps with time tracking in both Classic and Next-Gen projects.

Clockwork Automated Timesheets allows tracking time with the manual Start/Stop timer button or automatically when an issue is transitioned between statuses.
It stores time in Jira worklog so both Jira built-in reports and third-party apps can access the data.

Clockwork also gives the possibility to log work in Next-Gen projects:

Jack
