Hello all,
I need help in setting up a validation on Cascading drop-down custom field in a JIRA Cloud environment. How to make a "child" part mandatory, but ONLY if a "parent" has a value (not Null)? I'd greatly appreciate your help.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Hello @Gregory Kremer ,
Welcome to the community!
It is not possible to show make a field mandatory based on the field value on the parent issue in Native Jira.
However, you can try to create an automation rule that can check if the field value is null on the parent then, roll back the value on the child to empty.
You can also try exploring add-on that can serve this request, maybe scriptrunner can avail you of something that can cater for your request. Please check with their add-on support.
Hope you got some clarity with the functionality of the Jira with regards to your request.
Have a great day!
@Himanshi Thank you, but an automation option you suggested wouldn't work, because you misunderstood my need. I want to maker a "child" mandatory only if a "parent" has value. I am also aware that there is no out-of-the-box option to do such validation. I have ScripRunner installed and was hoping that someone would assist with the scripted validation.
Quite frankly, your response has very much surprised me, as it is absolutely not helpful and servers no purpose other than stating the obvious (no native solution for this problem).
