How to make a filed required in a test run?

I have created custom statuses for test run however i am unable to make a field required upon status change.

For eg: If i change the status of test run to On-hold i want comments field to be required. Please help!

I have tried creating a workflow for issue type "TEst" but didint work!

If you use the JSU add on in Jira(JSU Automation Suite for Jira Workflows), there is a Validator option you can add for a status change.  

The validator would be:  Fields Required (JSU)

You could add it for your status change to "On Hold"

take a look at that and see if that works for you.
